Amy specializes in emotional disorders and is passionate about treating women across the life span. Amy’s specialties include: anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, body image issues, perinatal/postpartum mood disorders, and perimenopausal/menopausal transitions.
Women’s mental health issues have been historically undervalued and misunderstood. Amy is an advocate for women in finding and using their voices, getting the help they deserve, and feeling connected and supported. Amy passionately serves the following populations:
Adolescents:
The teen years aren’t for the faint of heart for both the adolescent and the parents. Amy has significant experience treating adolescents with a variety of mental health needs including school avoidance, self-harm, identity development, eating disorders, social anxiety, and depression. She enjoys being alongside adolescents as they face challenges and learn to trust themselves more, while supporting parents as they guide their child towards young adulthood.
Young Adults:
Emerging adults in the post-high school phase face a lot of challenges navigating life on their own. Amy is adept at guiding these individuals from high school and through college, finding opportunities to grow, and leaning into the challenges of developing independence.
Perinatal/Postpartum:
Do you feel that you’ve lost yourself after having a baby? Perhaps you’re feeling incredibly alone and overwhelmed. Are you struggling with intrusive thoughts or can’t seem to quell the anxiety that wasn’t there before. Whether you’re navigating the new waves of motherhood, or are worried this is more than baby blues, Amy is equipped to help you identify the issue and create a plan of action. Her deep-rooted passion for empowering women places her as the ideal ally, equipped to guide you through these trials and into resilience and hope.
Perimenopause/Menopause:
This phase of life often feels like an unwanted surprise and can be very challenging for women to go through. It can feel like you’re reliving puberty, or that you’re suddenly hit with panic out of nowhere. You may fear that you’re experiencing early-onset dementia, as your focus and memory become problematic. You may feel less connected to your partner, and your mood management techniques are no longer effective. Amy blends warmth, humor, empathy, and a down-to-earth perspective into your treatment to help ease you through this transition.
Amy’s life experiences stretch across the globe, which contribute to her open-minded and culturally enriched approach. She thinks outside the box while still being grounded in the best evidence-based practices. Recognizing the daunting, often intimidating step of reaching out for help, Amy provides a sanctuary of trust and safety. Her therapy is not about dodging the discomfort and pain – it’s about bravely facing it, minimizing prolonged healing times and ensuring you develop the resilience to face life’s adversities.
Amy’s credentials speak volumes about her expertise. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Mental Health Service Provider designation in the state of Tennessee, which allows her to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. Amy got her Master of Science degree from Capella University in Clinical Mental Health. Her extensive practical experience ranges from treating eating disorders in residential and outpatient settings to managing crises in psychiatric hospital environments.
